Welcome to the Twilight Zone!

It was Mother's Day and the Mariachi came out to give serenata to all las madresitas at Lermas

George Gabriales from Conjunto Santos Zamora played an awesome mixture of conjunto, boleros, and racheras. George has been playing the accordion for many years and has played with all of the greats in San Antonio. If you ever get the chance to hear this guy play, you will know what I'm talking about.

Pio Perez on Drums and Dimas Garcia Jr on Guitar

Santos Zamora - Vocals and Bass

Where else to spend Mother's Day but at Lermas - the place that time forgot. The ghost of many acordeonistas linger around while we drink our Bud Light beer and think of our mothers. Did you call your mother Layo? Claro que si, did you call yours Gil, pues si. I'll drink to that! By the way Layo, are your bajos okay in the trunk of your car? Let me finsish my beer and I'll go and find out! But first let me say hello to Valerio sitting in that corner over there talking to Elvis...

It was a pleasant surprise to see our good friend Sandy Sanchez performing at Lermas with Henry Zimmerle. Sandy another incredible accordion virtuoso. Incredible technique and muy buena gente. One of the friendliest guys you will ever meet.

Henry Zimmerle a conjunto legend and incredible artist. As I thumbed through my collection of 78s, I came across Henry Zimmerle and Leonardo (Flaco) Jimenez y Los Caminantes on Rio Label Circa 1950s. He has recorded with Ideal, Bego, Falcon, and many other labels. Here he was at Lermas singing and playing his custom bajo that he modified himself. If nothing else, listening to this legend made it all worthwhile.

Javier Angel Guerra and his Monster Truck at Lermas parking lot - My body guard and muscle in SA. Don't mess with Angel, he is one big guy. It was a great treat meeting up with Guerra and hearing him on the Radio Sation KEDA as DJ for great conjunto music.

Lermas Nite Club - West Side of San Antonio on Zarzamora Street. Few dare to hang out at this "twilight zone." If you do, be prepared to go back in time......
