Gilbert Reyes, Flaco Jimenez, and Max Baca

I want to thank Linda Escobar for the following: "I
had the pleasure of meeting Oscar
Tellez many years ago when he played with Los Guadalupanos.
I was just a little girl back then. Every time I saw him he would
tell me, "You're my little sister, right?" He would capture my heart
immediately with his big smile and happy eyes! His saying to all was
"Compadrito". His talent was magnificent and truly God given! I can
honestly say that he was the best of the best in the bajo sexto. He
captivated his audience with his unique style and showmanship! Our
brother, Oscar Tellez, will be deeply missed and will live in our
hearts forever!'' - Linda Escobar -

Los Cautivos Del Norte
Los Cautivos Del Norte are a great northern California
Norteño band that have been playing the music
scene for over thirty years. El Maestro Gabriel Gonzalez founder of
the group and Lalo Perez the bajo sexto player first started playing
in the streets of Mexicalli, Mexico in the early 70's. Today they
have a CD out by Barajs Records and are one of the best Norteño
groups in California. Mi amigo Gabriel has been a good friend for
over 12 years and I want to thank him for letting me jam with them
when they perform. Even though I play conjunto, the band is always
willing to play my style. Gabriel is playing a two-tone Gabbanelli
FBbEb-EAD purchased at Reyes Accordions. He is one of the best accordion
players I have ever met. He can play from the Mingo Saldivar style
to the Ramon Ayala style with ease. A true maestro in every sense
of the word.

El Maestro Juan Lopez "El Rey De La Redova" Inducted
into the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame in 1989
I had a great privilege to meet one of the last
Conjunto Pioneers -- Juan Lopez. As I sat there playing the
bajo sexto, I realized that indeed this was a rare opportunity
playing next to not only a legend, but a man who had a tremendous
impact on Conjunto. It was the likes of Juan Lopez, Narciso
Martinez, Pedro Ayala Sr., Santiago Jimenez Sr., and Valerio
Longoria, just to name a few, that set the standard in the
1930s & 40s for Conjunto music and accordion technique.

El Maestro Daniel Garzes, David Champion, and Gilbert Reyes
Daniel Garzes one of the former members of "Los
Tres Reyes" has been performing and writing
for many years. He is well respected in the conjunto community
and continues to perform. I had the privilege in meeting Mr.
Garzes for the first time and was amazed of history behind
this man. David Champion is my good old friend from the Rio
Grande Valley. David and I grew up in Weslaco and I am happy
to have kept in touch with him. Gracias amigo por tu amistad.

Manolo Gonzales, Gilbert Reyes, and Thierry "Carpintero"
Carpentier
It was a great pleasure meeting Los Gallos
de Paris. Indeed they are great musicians and friendly people.
Gracias amigos for your amistad. It was truly interesting
communicating with Manolo and Thierry. Manolo only understands
Spanish and Thierry only English. I would turn around after
talking with Thierry in English and then would have to change
to Spanish so Manolo could understand. Once one of them
understood, they would in turn talk in French to each other.
The fact of the matter is that we understood each other.
